Colorado Rockies Recall C Michael McKenry From Triple-A; Option RHP Chad Bettis

The Colorado Rockies announced Saturday afternoon that the club has recalled free-agent signing, catcher Michael McKenry from the Triple-A affiliate Colorado Spring Sky Sox and optioned right-handed pitcher Chad Bettis.

McKenry was signed this offseason to be an insurance policy to catcher Wilin Rosario but would be ousted as the backup catcher to Jordan Pacheco. McKenry began the season with the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (Triple-A) and went (15-for-50) batting .300 with five doubles, two home runs, and 11 RBI’s in 13 games played.

McKenry is a career .223 hitter with 17 home runs and 64 RBI’s in 193 career MLB games. He spent the last three seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates after originally being drafted by the Colorado Rockies back in the 2006 First-Year Player Draft.

Meanwhile, pitcher Chad Bettis is getting optioned back to the minors for the second time this season. In his 12 appearances this season with the Rockies, going 0-1 with an ERA of 8.78.

McKenry will be on the active roster tonight as the Colorado Rockies take on the New York Mets in game three of a four-game set. Mets will send right-hander Jenrry Mejia (3-0, 3.49 ERA) vs Rockies lefty Franklin Morales (3-1, 4.40 ERA). First-pitch is scheduled for 8:10 PM ET, 6:10 PM MT.
