The Colorado Rockies (26-22) got a valiant effort from starting pitcher Jordan Lyles Friday night but it wasn’t enough as the Atlanta Braves came away with the 3-2 win.

Colorado was the first team to get on the board in game one of a three-game set, as Jordan Pacheco recorded an RBI groundout to short in the top half of the second inning, scoring Nolan Arenado to take the 1-0 lead. Atlanta would strike right back in the bottom half of the inning as Gerald Laird doubled to deep center off of Jordan Lyles to plate Dan Uggla as the game was tied at one.

Here’s where my heart sunk. In the top half of the second inning, Nolan Arenado would injure his left middle finger on a slide into second base. Expect the Rockies to put the gold glover on the disabled list, while calling up Josh Rutledge to play second, moving DJ LeMahieu over to third.

Lyles would run into a bit of trouble in the bottom half of the third inning as Justin Upton would plate his brother B.J. Upton on an RBI groundout to short to take the 2-1 lead. Moving ahead to the top half of the sixth inning, Rockies right fielder Michael Cuddyer has been a nice addition back into the lineup after coming back from a hamstring injury. The veteran would hit a solo home run to left off of Braves starter Gavin Floyd to tie it up at two apiece.

Moving ahead to the bottom half of the eighth inning, Rockies reliever Adam Ottavino would have one rare hiccup outing. He would give up a leadoff double to Ramiro Pena but would strike out the next two batters. Catcher Gerald Laird would come up with a big two-out RBI single to left, scoring Pena which proved to be the game-winning run.
