What a bizarre month the month of June has been for the Colorado Rockies. They lost five-straight games to begin the month and now less than a week removed, they have won five-straight; Including a three-game sweep of the NL West leading San Francisco Giants on the road at AT&T Park. Starting Monday night, they begin a three-game set with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Pitching Matchup:

COL: Tyler Matzek (1-0, 2.57 ERA)
LAD: Hyun-jin Ryu (7-3, 3.33 ERA)

Tyler Matzek is coming off his first Major League start and victory last Wednesday as he and the Rockies took down the Atlanta Braves, 8-2. Matzek dealt to say the least, pitching seven strong innings before a hiccup in the eight inning where he was removed. His finished those seven innings giving up two runs on just five hits, striking out seven batters. One problem he has had throughout his career in the minors was issuing walks but he walked a total of zero batters Wednesday night.

Hyun-Jin Ryu will take the ball for the Dodgers who just took two out of three games from the Arizona Diamondbacks at home. Ryu’s last start was against the Cincinnati Reds and it ended up as his third loss of the season. He would give up four runs on six hits through six innings pitched, walking two and striking out five in defeat. Ryu pitched against the Rockies the week prior, giving up two earned through six innings, picking up the victory.

In other news, the Rockies recalled their number six prospect according to MLB.com in Kyle Parker. Parker hit .292/.347/.478 in 66 games with the Colorado Spring Sky Sox, including 20 doubles, 3 triples, 7 home runs, and 38 RBI’s.
