I would like to take this post to wish Colorado Avalanche executive and former player Joe Sakic a happy 45th birthday. Sakic has done so much for the Colorado Avalanche organization not only as a player, but as an executive.

Just this past week, Sakic and head coach Patrick Roy saw longtime Avalanche Paul Stastny walk to go to his hometown team, the St. Louis Blues. Sakic and company showed composure, moving on from the issue and adding depth to the Avalanche which they lacked the previous season.

Sakic would go on to add a premier player in Jarome Iginla who is up there in age (37), but hasn’t shown any signs of cooling off in the scoring column. Colorado would also add a top-four defenseman in Brad Stuart and forward Daniel Briere from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for P.A. Parenteau.

You have to like the way things are turning out with this Colorado Avalanche franchise, starting with Joe Sakic and Patrick Roy. These two are incredibly smart in terms of what kind of talent they need to advance to the next stage.

We saw a young, Colorado Avalanche team turn the tables around last season after a disastrous 2013 campaign. The Avs finished the 2012-13′ season 15th in the Western Conference and 29th in the National Hockey League. They quickly turned that around the following season by finishing first in the Central Division and making the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Once again, happy birthday to “Super Joe” Joe Sakic. Oh, is it October yet?
