As you may already know (should know), the Denver Broncos defeated the Indianapolis Colts Sunday night, 31-24. While may focus on the offensive side of the ball with Peyton Manning at the helm, I was more intrigued with how the new-look, revamped defense would fair against one of the better quarterbacks in the league, Andrew Luck.

With the new additions of DeMarcus Ware, Aqib Talib, and T.J. Ward, how could you not be excited? That’s three Pro Bowlers added alongside Chris Harris Jr., Von Miller, Rahim Moore, ect. The defense in the first-half was aggressive and it showed in the stat sheet. The Colts couldn’t get anything going until the last two-minutes where they ran the hurry up.

More from Denver Broncos

Basically, the first three-quarters of the game were solid. Denver’s defense gave up just a combined 10 points. Granted, Von Miller didn’t really look like himself Sunday night but that’s apart of the process of coming back from a serious knee injury. Chris Harris Jr. on the other hand looked like he was in mid-season form,  collecting three tackles and two pass deflections.

What “Moore” could you say about the performance from Rahim Moore, playing in his first game since Oct. 17th, 2013. Moore suffered a serious leg injury that could’ve resulted in amputation, but the fourth-year pro out of UCLA bounced back quite fast. He would end up recording three tackles, two pass deflections, and not to mention, two key interceptions — resulting in the game ball.

As far as the new signings go, they were very active. Talib was great on coverage all-night, collecting three pass-deflections and four tackles. Ward on the other hand adds a different dimension to the defense that was it was desperately missing. The hard-hitting safety was swarming to the ball, resulting in three tackles and one pass deflection. DeMarcus Ware would record his first sack as a member of the Denver Broncos, collecting 1.5 sacks on the night with two tackles.

Denver’s defense is missing a key player in Danny Trevathan who will be out another 4-5 weeks, but Brandon Marshall did a heck of a job filling in. The third-year player out of Nevada led the team in tackles Sunday night, collecting ten total, eight solo, and one pass deflection.

This defense is scary good and it can only get better. It’s still going to take some time for them to gel together but you can’t help but be impressed with how they played the first three-quarters Sunday night, just need to finish the deal.
