The Denver Broncos came away with their second victory in as many games Sunday afternoon, sneaking past the Kansas City Chiefs, 24-17.

It didn’t come easy, but the Broncos came up big when it mattered. After Brandon McManus nailed a 20-yard field goal to give the Broncos a 24-17 lead, Kansas City made things interesting at the end. Starting from their own 34 yard line, Alex Smith and company marched all the way down to Denver’s two yard line. Granted, Denver helped them out with a couple of offside calls.

On 1st & 5 at Denver’s 30 yard line, Alex Smith dropped back to pass and DeMarcus Ware stripped him of the ball, as the Broncos recovered the ball. After review, the officials declared Smith’s arm was in the process of moving forward, thus resulting in an incomplete pass. Smith would then connect with Dwayne Bowe on an out route, resulting in 21 yards — setting the Chiefs up at the nine yard line.

After a couple of short passes, the Chiefs faced a fourth and two at Denver’s two. Smith would drop back to pass but his pass across the middle was deflected and incomplete, resulting in a 24-17 Broncos win.

Despite the sluggish performance all-around, Peyton Manning had himself a game. Manning would complete 21-of-26 passes for 242 yards, adding three touchdown passes. His first touchdown pass came to Julius Thomas in the first quarter, a 4-yard pass to give Thomas his fourth touchdown reception of the season.

After a field goal from Cairo Santos and touchdown run from Knile Davis, Denver trailed 10-7 with 10:32 remaining in the second quarter. Manning and company bounced back as he found tight end Jacob Tamme on a 4-yard pass as well. Nearly six minutes later, Demaryius Thomas would notch his first touchdown of the year on a 12-yard pass from Manning, pushing the lead to 21-10.

Knile Davis was at it again in the fourth, collecting a 4-yard rushing touchdown this time to make it interesting, but Denver held on for another victory.

The Denver Broncos (2-0) hit the road next Sunday for the most-anticipated matchup probably of the regular season. In a Super Bowl rematch, Denver will take on the Seattle Seahawks at CenturyLink Field. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:25 PM EST, 2:25 PM MST.
