The Colorado Avalanche dropped another game Sunday night at home to the Calgary Flames, falling 2-1. Now that the Avs’ have played five out of their eight preseason games, they have yet to collect a win. Should this be a concern heading into the regular season? Captain Gabriel Landeskog doesn’t think so.

"“I wouldn’t say concern, but we always want to win,” Landeskog said. “Any time you go into a game and step onto the ice, you expect to win and you want to win. Sometimes it doesn’t happen, but for us we know that you just can’t flip a switch when you get to the regular season. You want to create good habits, and that’s what we got to do here tonight.”"

In those five games, Colorado has only mustered seven goals while giving up a whopping 17 goals — definitely not a recipe for success. Now, the last three games have been fairly close with the Avs’ dropping each one by one goal. Avs’ newest acquisition Jarome Iginla nearly tied the game late in the third period against his former team as the winger failed to stuff the puck in the net past Joni Ortio.

Ryan O’Reilly picked up Colorado’s lone goal Sunday, collecting his second of the preseason. Teammates Tyson Barrie and Alex Tanguay picked up the helpers as the Avs’ fell to 0-4-1.

Personally, this may be a concern for some, but let it play out — this isn’t the regular season. The Avs’ will be fine once they get their regular lines going with their regular repetitions. The additions of Danny Briere, Jarome Iginla, and Brad Stuart will pay dividends down the stretch. Plus the regular core of Gabriel Landeskog, Matt Duchene, Nathan MacKinnon, and Ryan O’Reilly can only get better.

The Colorado Avalanche (0-4-1) resume preseason action Tuesday night against the Calgary Flames. Puck-drop at the Scotiabank Saddledome is scheduled for 9:00 PM EST, 7:00 PM MST.
