The Colorado Avalanche were busy Monday afternoon, not only with practice, but by signing two players to extensions. The team announced that they have come to terms with defenseman Brad Stuart and forward Cody McLeod on multi-year deals.

Stuart, who is set to turn 35 this season, received a two-year, $7.2 million deal even though he hasn’t played a regular season game with the Avs’. On the other hand, McLeod put pen to paper on a three-year extension, keeping him with the club until 2017-18.

Stuart was one of the key pickups this offseason as Colorado shifted their focus to depth and leadership. The team was desperate in blue line enforcement, so they went out and traded a second round pick in 2016 as well as a sixth rounder in 2017 to land the veteran. Stuart played in 61 games last season for the San Jose Sharks, collecting 11 points (3 goals, 8 assists), while earning a plus/minus of +4.

McLeod has been an enforcer for the Avs’ for years. The team signed McLeod as an undrafted free agent back in 2006 and has been with the team ever since. Last season for the Avs’, McLeod served 122 minutes in the box, collecting 13 points (5 goals, 8 assists), earning a plus/minus of +2. McLeod has appeared in 467 games with the Avalanche, scoring 50 career goals.

The Colorado Avalanche open up their regular season Thursday, October 9th on the road at Excel Energy Center, taking on the Minnesota Wild. Puck-drop is scheduled for 8:30 PM EST, 6:30 PM MST.
