NHL Game 12 Preview: Colorado Avalanche vs. St. Louis Blues

The Colorado Avalanche hit the road taking on a familiar rival in the St. Louis Blues. These games got really chippy last season which will make for a great game Saturday night. Colorado puts their five-game point streak on the line at the Scottrade Center in Saint Louis. Missouri.

This past Thursday night, the Colorado Avalanche shutout the New York Islanders at home, 5-0. It was a matter of time before reigning Rookie of the Year Nathan MacKinnon burst out onto the scene. MacKinnon didn’t record a single goal in Colorado’s first ten games but did so in their eleventh. Not only did he score once; he scored twice. MacKinnon was named the second star of the night with two goals and a plus/minus rating of one.

Colorado won’t get to see former teammate Paul Stastny in action tonight as  the forward is dealing with a shoulder injury. St. Louis will also be without forwards T.J. Oshie (head) and Joakim Lindstrom (bacteria lumps).

St. Louis is coming off of a shutout victory themselves, defeating the Anaheim Ducks at home, 2-0. Blues back-up goaltender Jake Allen was named the first star of the game, stopping all 24 shots on net while collecting the win. Ryan Reaves and Alexander Steen picked up the two goals.

Semyon Varlamov will be in net for the Avs’ and what a fantastic game he is coming off of. Varly was brilliant, stopping 40-of-40 shots on net – picking up his first shutout of the season.

No lineup changes tonight as Patrick Roy says Daniel Briere and Zach Redmond will be scratched for the second-straight game.
