Emmanuel Mudiay recently sprained his ankle during a practice session for the Denver Nuggets and is at risk to miss extensive time.

Denver Nuggets head coach Michael Malone stated that Emmanuel Mudiay suffered a sprained ankle in a recent practice; however, Mudiay started Friday’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Despite the start, the pain in Emmanuel Mudiay’s ankle proved to much to bear, and he exited the game with just two points, two rebounds, and one assist. Emmanuel Mudiay suffered a similar injury last season while playing professionally in China.

"“Kind of what happened in China, but not as bad as what happened in China… better treatment here, and everything is going to go a lot faster.” – Emmanuel Mudiay"

When Emmanuel Mudiay suffered a sprained ankle last season in China, the injury sidelined the highly touted prospect from December to February. Coincidentally, this injury occurred at the same last season, but he hopes to be back sooner rather than later. Due to the ankle injury, the Denver Nuggets ruled out Emmanuel Mudiay from tonight’s (12/14) contest against the Houston Rockets.

The Denver Nuggets hit the road following their matchup against the Rockets, and they play their second game of a back-to-back against the Timberwolves on Tuesday (12/15). The Nuggets have not ruled out Emmanuel Mudiay past tonight’s contest, but it is highly unlikely he returns on Tuesday against the T-Wolves. The Denver Nuggets did not express how severe the ankle injury is to Mudiay, but he likely misses some time due to it. Hopefully, he returns to the court sooner rather than later.

Expect Jameer Nelson to fill the void left by Emmanuel Mudiay for the duration of his injury. With Mudiay’s injury, the Denver Nuggets suffer another setback to their rotation, but the team expects Jusuf Nurkic to be back shortly. Nurkic is expected to be cleared for full-contact practices later in the week. Emmanuel Mudiay’s injury is a tough blow for the Denver Nuggets, but hopefully, the injury is not serious.
