The Denver Broncos and Head Coach Gary Kubiak announced on Wednesday that Brock Osweiler will remain the Broncos starting quarterback for this week’s upcoming game on Monday Night Football against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Peyton Manning has missed five games since leaving the Denver Broncos November 15th game against the Kansas City Chiefs due to plantar fasciatis. Brock Osweiler entered the game after halftime, and has started 5 games since then. Having won three out of his first five starts, Brock Osweiler is currently the best option for the Denver Broncos as Peyton Manning continues to recover.

More from Denver Broncos

Denver Broncos beat reporter Andrew Mason reported on Wednesday that the decision to start Brock Osweiler on Monday against the Cincinnati Bengals came after Gary Kubiak met with Peyton Manning earlier in the week. Mason also reports that Peyton Manning will not practice on Wednesday or for the rest of the week. Manning will remain inactive against the Bengals as well.

After having lost two consecutive games to the Oakland Raiders and the Pittsburgh Steelers, the focus of Monday’s game is undoubtedly on Brock Osweiler. The Denver Broncos have not scored in the second halves of their last two contests; and while it’s not entirely the fault of Brock Osweiler, he leads the offense.

Against Pittsburgh last week, Brock Osweiler threw for 214 yards and three touchdowns, but was shut out in the second half, throwing only 7-26 and recorded an interception. If the Denver Broncos hope to improve their seeding in the AFC’s playoff race, they must show improvement on the offensive end.

This report comes after Peyton Manning flat out refute NFL.com’s Ian Rapaport’s claim that he is unsatisfied serving as the Broncos backup quarterback behind Brock Osweiler. Once Peyton Manning is healthy, we shall see which way Gary Kubiak goes with his quarterbacks as this controversy will certainly intensify.
