Colorado Avalanche extend goaltender Semyon Varlamov to a 5-year extension

According to Adrian Dater of The Denver Post, the Colorado Avalanche and goaltender Semyon Varlamov come to an agreement on a five-year contract extension which extends through the 2018-19 season which is worth $29.5 million dollars and will take a cap hit of $5.9 million.
Varlamov has played excellent for the Avalanche that is just past the half-way point of the 2013-14 regular season. In Colorado’s most recent game against the Dallas Stars, the 25-year-old stopped 41-of-44 shots in the 4-3 win. He has had a fantastic month of January as the goaltender is 9-1-1, with a 2.57 goals against average with a save percentage of .922%.
On the season, Varlamov has collected 26 of the teams 33 wins with a record of 26-9-5 with a goals against average of 2.43. Varlamov will be a piece that the Avalanche can build around for the future including Nathan MacKinnon, Matt Duchene, and Gabriel Landeskog.
