Juan Nicasio is looking for a healthier, better 2014 season as a member of the Colorado Rockies. He is also vying for a spot in the rotation and he made his presence known Tuesday afternoon against the San Francisco Giants. Nicasio would blank the Giants in three innings of work, giving up just two hits while striking out four batters.

Notable Rockies Hitters:

LaTroy Hawkins was signed in the Rockies in the offseason to add some bullpen depth but would have a hiccup today. The veteran who signed a one-year deal with $2.5 million would pitch one inning, giving up three hits and two earned runs earning the loss.

Relief pitcher Matt Belisle bounced back and pitched a scoreless inning of work, giving up just one hit.

For the Giants, their slated Opening Day starter Madison Bumgarner was on his game. He would pitch three scoreless innings, giving up just two hits while striking out one batter.  Former Colorado Rockies outfielder Tyler Colvin would strike back against his former team, hitting an RBI double to center to drive in Brandon Belt.

Notable Rockies Pitchers:

  • Juan Nicasio: 3.0 IP, 2 H, 4 K’s.
  • LaTroy Hawkins: 1.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 K.
  • Matt Belisle: 1.0 IP, 1 H.

The Colorado Rockies return to Cactus League play tomorrow as they will have split-squads. The first team will take on the Chicago Cubs at 1:05 PM MT while the other team will take on the Texas Rangers at the same time at Salt Rivers Field at Talking Stick.
