Jordan Lyles did it all on Monday night for the Colorado Rockies. He would throw 6 2/3 innings before getting pulled after walking Tyler Flowers. He would give up just five hits, one earned run, two walks while striking out four batters. Lyles would even get into it on the offensive side, going a perfect 3-for-3 from the plate with two runs batted in. Carlos Gonzalez got the Rockies bats going early in the first inning as he took Felipe Paulino deep on a ball that got out in a hurry over the auxiliary scoreboard in right field. Then in the bottom of the second, Jordan Lyles would help out his own cause with an RBI double scoring DJ LeMahieu to put the Rockies up 2-0.
Jumping ahead to the bottom of the third, the Rockies would load the bases after a Justin Morneau single to right field. Wilin Rosario would follow him up with an infield single off of good hustle, scoring Michael Cuddyer for the 3-0 lead. The Rockies would get something cooking in the fifth inning after a lead-off double from Troy Tulowitzki. DJ LeMahieu would have the bases loaded and singles to right to score Tulowitzki. With the bases still loaded for pitcher Jordan Lyles, he would collect another hit, driving in Rosario to put the Rockies up 5-0. Charlie Blackmon would add onto the offensive explosion, hitting a sacrifice-fly to left field to score Nolan Arenado.
The Chicago White Sox would break up Jordan Lyles shutout in the top half of the seventh inning. Shortstop Alexei Ramirez would hit a rocket to left field to score Avisail Garcia to reduce the lead to six. Colorado would get that run right back in the bottom of the eight as Justin Morneau reached on an error from second baseman Marcus Semien to plate Cuddyer as the Rockies took the 8-1 lead and it would stand.
The bullpen continues to build on strong performances as tonight was no different. Adam Ottavino came into the seventh inning to spot Jordan Lyles, striking out Danny Viciedo to strand Ramirez at second base. Chad Bettis and Matt Belisle would each throw a scoreless inning in relief.
