The Colorado Rockies jumped all over Philadelphia Phillies right-hander Jonathan Pettibone Friday night at Coors Field starting in the first inning. Charlie Blackmon continues to rake as the right-fielder began the game with a lead-off single through the hole in-between second and first. After a Drew Stubbs single to left, Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki worked a 14-pitch walk to load the bases for Justin Morneau. Morneau came up big, hitting a ground-rule double to the left-center gap to score two as the Rockies took the early 2-0 lead. Wilin Rosario would follow-up with an RBI ground out to score Tulo while Nolan Arenado singled in Morneau for the four-run first.
The Rockies kept adding on in the second inning as Charlie Blackmon singled and Carlos Gonzalez walked. After seeing 14-pitches in his prior at-bat, Troy Tulowitzki would hit a no-doubt three-run home run to put the Rockies up 7-0 right out of the gates.
In his second start of the season, Rockies right-handed pitcher Tyler Chatwood was on his A-game. He would throw seven innings, giving up just two hits, one run, none earned, one walk, and six strikeouts. The bullpen consisting of Chad Bettis and Matt Belisle would throw two scoreless innings combined, giving up no hits while adding a strikeout.
Troy Tulowitzki was a one-man wrecking crew Friday night as the shortstop went 3-for-3 with two runs and five runs batted in. He would double in the fourth inning to score Drew Stubbs and would single in Stubbs again in the sixth inning. Charlie Blackmon would plate DJ LeMahieu in the seventh and Wilin Rosario’s double in the 8th plated Brandon Barnes and Corey Dickerson as the Rockies took the lead 12-1 and it would stay that way.
