The trade consisting of Dexter Fowler for Brandon Barnes and Jordan Lyles is looking like it’s paying off for the Colorado Rockies. Lyles would take the hill Saturday night, having his way with the Philadelphia Phillies hitters. He would record 13 groundball outs in his seven innings of work, giving up five hits, one run, one earned, one walk while striking out two. Lyles would pick up his third victory of the season, sitting at a record of 3-0 with a 3.42 ERA.

After a Nolan Arenado single in the bottom of the third inning, DJ LeMahieu would connect on a hit-and-run single that would get Arenado on his high horse. Stu Cole would wave Arenado in on a ball in the left-center gap and he would initially be called out by home plate umpire Tim Welke. They would go to the replay booth to review the play and it would be overturned as Phillies catcher Carlos Ruiz had been blocking the plate without the ball, not giving Arenado a clean-path to slide. With that being said, Colorado would take the 1-0 lead on LeMahieu’s RBI single.

Justin Morneau continues to be a key free agent signing for the Rockies this past offseason. In the bottom of the fourth inning after a Carlos Gonzalez infield single, Morneau would unload on a pitch that he sent over the fence in right field for his third home run of the season; it would be his first home run in a Rockies uniform at Coors Field. After that home run, Colorado took the 3-0 lead and that’s all they would need. Phillies tried to get something going in the top of eighth inning but all they would get was an RBI ground out from shortstop Jimmy Rollins to cut the lead to two.

The bullpen came in and did another good job limiting the damage. Boone Logan and LaTroy Hawkins would pitch two scoreless innings while collecting a strikeout. Hawkins would pick up his fifth save of the season, reducing his ERA to 1.35 as the Colorado Rockies collected their 10th win of the season.
