By Andrew Dill
The Colorado Rockies continue to roll, coming away with a 10-3 win over the New York Mets in game two of a four-game set as they improve to 18-13 on the young season.
Colorado would jump all over Mets young righty Zack Wheeler. In the bottom half of the first inning after the Mets took a 1-0 lead on a Jorge De La Rosa wild pitch, Charlie Blackmon led off the inning with a single to right. After a Nolan Arenado walk, Troy Tulowitzki would slap a single to left, scoring Blackmon to tie it up at one.
Justin Morneau continues to impress in a Rockies uniform, following up Tulo’s at-bat with an RBI double to left scoring Arenado. Right after that, catcher Wilin Rosario would get an infield base hit that just stayed fair, scoring Tulowitzki to take the 3-1 lead. Finally, Corey Dickerson would finish off the scoring in the first with a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Morneau to take the early 4-1 lead.
Colorado would keep adding on in the bottom half of the 2nd inning as Jorge De La Rosa and Charlie Blackmon picked up back-to-back singles. Troy Tulowitzki would follow-up with a two-RBI single to left, extending the Rockies lead to five, 6-1. In the fourth inning, Charlie Blackmon would ground out to first, scoring Brandon Barnes to push the lead to six.
Moving to the top half of the sixth inning, the Mets would get on the board. After a lead off walk to Chris Young, Jorge De La Rosa would end up giving up a two-run home run to Curtis Granderson, trimming the lead to four.
Rockies starter Jorge De La Rosa would make it through the sixth inning and his night was done after that as his pitch-count reached 100 on the night. His final line would be six innings pitched, giving up eight hits, three runs, three earned, three walks, and four strikeouts.
Colorado would put together a three-run eighth led by a lead off home run from Charlie Blackmon for his 6th of the season. After back-to-back singles from Nolan Arenado and Troy Tulowitzki, Justin Morneau would hit an RBI single to center, plating Arenado while moving Tulo to third. Wilin Rosario would finish it up with a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Tulo as the Rockies took the 10-3 lead and that’s what the final would be.
