The former Oklahoma Sooner latched on with the Broncos back on May 10th, and was actually the number two recruited running back before he went to college. With that said, Clay isn’t an elite talent and ran just a 4.64 40 time at the NFL Combine this year. He’s a longshot to make the final roster.
The reality here is that the writing is on the wall, and then some (in a good way, of course). Ball appears to have the size and skill-set to be a full-time player. The flaws he displayed as a rookie have been worked out pretty well, and truth be told, he’s all the Broncos have. The backups behind him are fairly one-dimensional, and at the very worst he’s an early down back who will see a ton of goal-line duty.
He’s going to enter 2014 as a RB2 at the very worst. However, considering Knowshon is the inferior talent and he found a way to finish as fantasy’s #5 overall running back, the upside is quite high for Ball.
