What a signing this turned out to be? Everyone was ragging on the former MVP saying he was washed up when he had a dreadful second-half with the Twins/Pirates last season. Now, he is proving everyone wrong.
Morneau, 33, battled for a final spot on the National League roster but came up just short. However, he deserved to make the team with how important he has been for this Rockies lineup. Entering the break, Morneau is hitting .312/.345/.502 with 20 doubles, 2 triples, 13 home runs, and 60 RBI’s.
Morneau is currently 4th in the National League in RBI’s (60), 6th in batting average (.312), and 10th in slugging percentage (.502). Not bad for filling in for Todd Helton who occupied the position for the last 17 years.
