Good news coming out of the Colorado Rockies camp is that number two overall prospect Eddie Butler is expected to re-join the rotation Tuesday night against the Washington Nationals. Colorado just found out Tyler Chatwood would undergo Tommy John Surgery and is out for the remainder of the season.

Butler, 23, made his Major League debut for the Rockies back on June 6th against the Los Angeles Dodgers and it didn’t go as planned. The righty out of Radford University gave up six runs on 10 hits, walking three and striking out two over just 5.1 innings. The righty would then get put on the 15-day disabled list with rotator cuff inflammation as things went from bad to worse.
Eddie made a rehab start for the High-A affiliate Modesto Nuts last week and fared pretty well. Butler pitched just four innings, giving up three runs on two hits, walking two and striking out two. His velocity reportedly topped out at 96-MPH which we saw in his MLB debut pop up to 97 at times.
Colorado desperately needs Butler in their rotation and needs him to pitch well. Colorado recently got back southpaw Brett Anderson who was roughed up by the Twins in his return. The Rockies are missing key starters Jhoulys Chacin, Jordan Lyles, and Tyler Chatwood.
Rockies begin a three-game set tonight on the road as they take on the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park.
