Hawkins, 41, signed a one-year deal in the offseason with the Rockies worth roughly $2.5 million. Pittsburgh is trying to add some solid pieces in their pen without having to spend too much. Hawkins also has a $2.25 million dollar club option for the 2015 season.
LaTroy has been a solid addition to the nightmare of a bullpen for the Colorado Rockies this season. Hawkins holds the second-best ERA out of the pen behind rookie Tommy Kahnle (2.72) with an ERA of 3.09. Hawk has appeared in 37 games this season, earning a record of 2-2 while converting 17/18 save opportunities. The veteran has also posted a 1.20 WHIP in 35 innings pitched.
The Rockies aren’t going anywhere this season as they currently sit with a record of 43-61 entering Monday night’s action. The team has holes to fill on the pitching side — mainly the bullpen. The Pirates on the other hand are in the hunt for the Central Division crown, three games back of the Milwaukee Brewers.
While the trade rumors will continue to swirl, the Colorado Rockies open up a four-game set with the Chicago Cubs tonight at Wrigley Field. First-pitch is scheduled for 8:05 PM ET, 6:05 PM MT.
