The Broncos offense clicked on all cylinders in the first half against the Indianapolis Colts last Sunday, but only managed to scrape seven points in the second half. Peyton Manning was his usual self, passing for 269 yards with three touchdowns — all to tight-end Julius Thomas. Thomas was named AFC Player of the Week with his seven catches for 104 yards.
The defense gave us hope in the first half, holding Andrew Luck and company to just seven points, which came in a two-minute drill at the end of the half. Denver’s defense would wind up spotting Indy 17 points in the second half, due to the fac that the offense couldn’t get anything going.
Alex Smith looked shaky against the Titans defense last Sunday, completing just 19-of-35 passes for 202 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions. The quarterback was also sacked four times throughout the ballgame. A key player to watch out for this Sunday is Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles. Just like Smith, Charles struggled as well, collecting 19 yards on seven carries.
Even bad news for the Chiefs, they would end up losing linebacker Derick Johnson and defensive tackle Mike DeVito to season-ending injuries (Achilles tendons). Kansas City went out and signed former Broncos defensive tackle, Kevin Vickerson, to shore up the tackle position.
The Denver Broncos are also hoping slot receiver Wes Welker can play Sunday. The wide-out was originally suspended for four games due to violating the league’s substance abuse policy but could be reinstated due to the negotiations of the new drug policy. Manning said in an interview that it “would be great” to get Wes back.
We all know the Broncos offense is a must-watch every single week, but you should focus on Kansas City’s run game vs. Denver’s defensive line. It will be an intriguing match-up due to the fact Denver’s defense is very good at stopping the run, while Kansas City flourishes at pounding the rock.
Kick-off is scheduled for 4:25 PM EST, 2:25 PM MST.
