College Football Preview: Colorado Buffaloes vs. California Golden Bears

The Colorado Buffaloes hit the road for their second�Pac-12 conference game Saturday afternoon as they will take on the California Golden Bears. Colorado is coming off of a close, 21-12 victory over the Hawaii Warriors last Saturday while the Bears suffered a tough defeat to the Arizona Wildcats, 49-45.

The Buffaloes picked up the win last Saturday vs. Hawaii thanks to junior receiver, Nelson Spruce. Spruce went on to catch a school record 13 passes for 172 yards, including a 71-yard pass from Sefo Liufau late in the first quarter to give the Buffs the lead. Liufau finished the game completing 29-of-45 passes for 287 yards, including two touchdowns and two interceptions.

If you remember correctly, the Colorado Buffaloes finished the 2013 season with a record of 4-8, 1-8 in Pac-12 play. Their lone win came against the California Golden Bears on Nov. 16th, 2013. Sefo Liufau would lead the way, completing 23-of-36 passes for 364 yards, including three touchdowns and one pick. His three touchdown passes went to three different receivers (Michael Adkins, Tony Jones, and Kyle Slavin).

A player to watch out for on California’s offense is sophomore quarterback Jared Goff. Goff has passed for over 890 yards this season, collecting 10 touchdowns and two interceptions. Last Saturday against Arizona, Goff completed 18-of-30 passes for 380 yards, including three touchdowns and a pick. His running backs, Daniel Lasco and Khalfani Muhammad, sliced and diced Arizona’s run defense.

Lasco carried the ball 20 times, resulting in 123 yards and a touchdown. Muhammad on the other hand, carried the ball 11 times, covering 95 yards as he picked up two rushing touchdowns. Colorado’s defense will have to be on their toes Saturday afternoon with the abundant of weapons Cal possesses.

Kick-off between the Colorado Buffaloes and California Golden Bears is scheduled for 4:00 PM EST, 2:00 PM MST Saturday afternoon at Memorial Stadium.
