The nightmare of a season for the Colorado Rockies is almost history as the team opens up their final series of the 2014 season against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Some people haven’t watched Rockies games since late-July and rightfully so, but there are some reasons to watch the last three games.
Pitching Matchups:
Friday, Sept. 26th:
- Rockies: Jordan Lyles (7-3, 4.15 ERA) vs. Dodgers: Roberto Hernandez (8-11, 4.08 ERA)
- Start time: 10:10 PM EST, 8:10 PM MST.
Saturday, Sept. 27th:
- Rockies: Eddie Butler (1-1, 5.56 ERA) vs. Dodgers: Dan Haren (13-11, 4.03 ERA)
- Start time: 9:10 PM EST, 7:10 PM MST
Sunday, Sept. 28th:
- Rockies: Christian Bergman (3-4, 5.29 ERA) vs. Dodgers: Zack Greinke (16-8, 2.74 ERA)
- Start time: 4:10 PM EST, 2:10 PM MST.
As I noted above, there are plenty of reasons to watch the last three games of the season. First off all, this will be the last time you will see the Rockies in action until Spring Training, which starts in late-February, early-March. Although the Rockies season was derailed by injuries yet again, the team has some bright spots moving forward to watch such as Charlie Blackmon and Corey Dickerson.

Second, Justin Morneau is currently contending for the National League Batting Title, sitting in second place with a .317 average behind Pittsburgh Pirates third baseman, Josh Harrison who boasts a .319 average. If Morneau jumps ahead of Harrison and collects the batting title, he will be the eighth Colorado Rockie in franchise history to do so. It will also be Justin Morneau’s first batting title.
Last but not least, watch Eddie Butler pitch on Saturday. Coming into the season, he alongside Jon Gray, were number one and number two in the Colorado Rockies organization. Butler was hit around his first start back on Jun. 6th against the Dodgers. Butler made his first start in the Majors since then on Sept. 20th vs. Arizona Diamondbacks, giving up just one run on five hits, walking one and striking out one as he picked up his first Major League victory.
First-pitch between the Colorado Rockies and Los Angeles Dodgers is scheduled for 10:10 PM EST, 8:10 PM MST tonight.
