It’s been a long road for Brandon Marshall. After being cut three times by the Jacksonville Jaguars, the 142nd pick in the 2012 NFL draft is showing the world that he can play some linebacker.
It’s fairly easy to overlook Brandon Marshall with all of the other fire power the Broncos possess on defense, but he has played very solid during the first three weeks of the season and he deserves some recognition.
Marshall stepped into the starting role after Danny Trevathan suffered a leg injury fairly early into training camp. Trevathan has been sidelined for quite some time now, and hopes to return to the field when the Broncos take on the Cardinals next week. Losing Trevathan was huge for Denver, but Brandon Marshall has played very well in his absence.

Through three games, Marshall is currently tied for sixth in the NFL in tackles with 30. He also has two passes defended and a forced fumble. Marshall has a nose for the football, and it showed in the week 3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks in which Marshall led the team in tackles with 12. Marshall has come in and played sound football. He hasn’t missed a beat. He knows what he’s doing and it shows in his play.
Marshall has paid his dues. After being cut by the Jaguars, It’s easy to see that not a lot of people have believed in him on his journey to becoming the Broncos starting linebacker. No one has been more confident in Marshall than himself. He has said numerous times that he is ready for the challenge, and he was right. He has taken advantage of his opportunity and shown that he is a valuable asset to the Bronco defense.
This defense has shown flashes of greatness, and depth at linebacker will only make the defense stronger. Danny Trevathan was arguably Denver’s best linebacker last season, and if you have Brandon Marshall continue to play as well as he is the linebackers have the opportunity to make some big noise as the season progresses.
Marshall has proven that he is a good linebacker and I can only see him getting better form here. I hope Denver can find reps for him when Danny Trevathan makes his long awaited return.
