After sitting out the last two games of the regular season, Colorado Rockies first baseman Justin Morneau clinched the National League Batting Title, edging out Pittsburgh Pirates third baseman Josh Harrison. Personally, I do not like the way the Rockies went about it, sitting Morneau the final two games but they apparently need something positive heading into the 2015 campaign.

More from Colorado Rockies

Morneau, 33, played well during his first year as a member of the Colorado Rockies. The former Minnesota Twin and Pittsburgh Pirate hit .319/.364/.497 with 32 doubles, 3 triples, 17 home runs, and 82 RBI’s, while just striking out 60 times over 501 at-bats.

Pirates third baseman Josh Harrison had to play no matter what to catch up to Morneau. Harrison entered play Sunday afternoon hitting .318, trailing Morneau by one measly point. However, he went 0-for-4 with a strikeout, ending his hopes of hoisting a National League Batting Title. His teammate, Andrew McCutchen, entered today with a .314 average but stood pat after going 1-for-3 with a single.

Congratulations to Justin Morneau on a fine season as he brings the National League Batting Title back to 20th and Blake. Michael Cuddyer won the Batting Title last season, hitting at a line of .331/.389/.530 with 31 doubles, 3 triples, 20 home runs, and 84 RBI’s.
