Colorado switched from the man-to-man defensive scheme to a zone Thursday night vs. Toronto and they looked much improved in my eyes. As you saw, defensive stops led to chances on offensive – Zach Redmond‘s pass to Alex Tanguay for the breakaway goal was a thing of beauty.
Colorado defeated Toronto Thursday night, defeating Phil Kessel and his Leafs 4-3 via a shootout. Matt Duchene, Ryan O’Reilly, and Alex Tanguay earned first, second, and third star honors respectively as they combined for two goals and one assist. Nick Holden recorded Colorado’s other goal in the first period on a nice find from Nathan MacKinnon.

If you missed Colorado’s game Thursday night, Ryan O’Reilly recorded an assist, collecting his 200th NHL point.
Meanwhile, the Philadelphia Flyers are coming off a 4-1 victory over the Florida Panthers Thursday night. Sean Couturier led the attack for the Flyers, recording a goal and an assist. Steve Mason was as solid as it gets in net, stopping 34-of-35 shots, .971% save percentage.
As far as Philadelphia’s statistical leaders go, Jakub Voracek leds the team in points (19), goals (6), and assists (13). Fan favorite Claude Giroux is right behind him with 15 points (2 goals and 13 assists).
Puck-drop between the Colorado Avalanche and Philadelphia Flyers is scheduled for 7:00 PM EST, 5:00 PM MST.
