College Basketball Recap: Colorado Buffaloes take down Drexel Dragons in season opener, 65-48.

The Colorado Buffaloes men’s basketball team started out the season the right way, defeating the Drexel Dragons 65-48 in a non-conference match-up.

How about the night junior forward Josh Scott had? Colorado took the early 11-3 lead in the first-half as Scott accounted for six of those points. Scott helped�power the Buffaloes past the Dragons, scoring 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting, collecting 11 rebounds and 3 blocks in the process.

Buffs’ Xavier Johnson, and Wesley Gordon did not start the game due to disciplinary issues according to head coach Tad Boyle in a post-game press conference. It’s the same reason why freshman Dominique Collier will miss the first two games.

Booker struggled off the bench with notable rust in his game. Booker ended the game with 7 points on 2-of-14 shooting, collecting 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals. Wesley Gordon was the top scorer off the bench, producing 9 points on 2-of-2 shooting, knocking down 5-of-6 attempts from the charity stripe. Meanwhile, Xavier Johnson added 8 points of his own, shooting 2-of-5 from the field with both of those makes being three-pointers.

Sophomores Dustin Thomas and Tre’Shaun Fletcher started in the place of Gordon and Johnson Friday night.

Tavon Allen led the way for the Dragons off the bench, scoring a team-high 16 points on 5-of-17 shooting. Starting guard Damion Lee chipped in 12 points, going 4-of-14 from the field with 3 rebounds, 1 assist, and 2 steals.

The Colorado Buffaloes (1-0, 0-0 in Pac-12) resume action Tuesday night, taking on the Auburn Tigers at the Coors Event Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 AM EST, 11:00 PM MST.
