Gary Kubiak is “Home” with the Denver Broncos
By Joe Morrone
Gary Kubiak was introduced as the 15th head coach of the Denver Broncos on Tuesday and one thing is clear, he is the right man for the job.
Press conferences by their nature are designed to make everyone involved look good, but Kubiak did not need any help there. He admitted that speaking in these types of forums was not his best thing, and then he proceeded to hit it out of the park.
His passion for the Broncos and this community came pouring out and when asked why he decided to take this job after saying that he would not interview for head coaching position this year. Kubiak called the Broncos, “A game changer.” This is home, this is where he started as a player and a coach. Saying no to his good friend John Elway was never an option but more importantly, Kubiak could not say no to Pat Bowlen. In a professional sense, this is where Kubiak belongs. This is where he has always belonged.

This is not a shot at John Fox but he never felt the passion for the Broncos the way the fans do, the way Elway does and certainly not the way Kubiak does. I’m sure there are other communities that have a special connection with their football team, but it’s different here and Kubiak gets it.
He also gets and embraces the goal of this franchise which is and always has been winning World Championships. A lot of coaches would be scared off by those expectations but not Kubiak who said,
"“I do understand the expectations of this organization and that’s why I love it so much. I know that each and every year that this team is built with one reason, and one reason only and that’s to win a championship. I was a part of the last one. I want to do it again.”"
Kubiak also talked about how a good coach adjusts his system to fit what his players do best, and that had to be music to the ears of Broncos’ fans. Part of the issue in 2014 was the fact that a lot of talented players were not being put in the best position to succeed, but that will change under Kubiak.
When asked about how his offense would fit Manning, Kubiak said:
"“It’s easy to build a playbook for him, he’s the master at controlling the game, controlling the line of scrimmage and I’m looking forward to learning that style and the system he has.”"
Sure Kubiak has fundamental things that he wants to get done in his offense but he also understands that adjusting to what his players do best should be the number one goal for any coach.
As for those of you who are worried that the Broncos have brought back too many people from the past I would ask this, why is that a bad thing? As a fan, I want people running the franchise who care about it as deeply as I do. Fox is a good coach and he did a lot of good things for the Broncos, but he hasn’t bled for the organization. Kubiak has and will again.
From the moment that Elway and Fox “parted ways,” Kubiak was always the choice and as disappointing as the playoff loss was, it ended up being a good thing. The Broncos are in a much better place today than they were on that day and it’s because Kubiak said this on Tuesday,
“This is home for me.”
