Ty Lawson deserves to be a reserve for the Western Conference
By Andrew Dill
The Denver Nuggets are having another disappointing season, but that shouldn’t stop point guard Ty Lawson from making his first All-Star game. The 27-year-old is putting up career numbers and has been a force over Denver’s last five games. Here’s my vow for Ty to be a Western Conference reserve.
Lawson recorded just four points and eight assists in 34 minutes as Denver fell to the San Antonio Spurs Tuesday night, but the previous four games show just how good he has been this season. Over that span, Lawson averaged 20.3 points, 9.3 assists, including a game where Lawson dropped 29 points and 12 assists against the Dallas Mavericks.

Of course we will have to wait until January 29th to find out whether or not Lawson made the team, but he should be a for sure shoe in. Just imagine where this team would be without Lawson. Five to 10 wins, maybe? Ten wins are being brutally nice.
Back in early December, former teammate Timofey Mozgov, who now plays for the Cleveland Cavaliers, voiced his support for Lawson to make the game. At the time, Lawson was averaging 15.9 points and 10.3 assists per game. Here’s Mozzy’s quote.
"He’s a good dude, you’ve got to vote for him … and again have a good day and don’t drink and drive."
Yeah, what he said. By looking at Ty’s stats, Denver is winning more when he dishes out more times, and losing once he scores more.
Wins: 15.9 points, 10.8 assists, 1.3 steals. 44.9% shooting.
Losses: 17.3 points, 9.3 assists, 1.3 steals. 43.1% shooting.
Over Lawson’s last ten games, he’s been scoring more and assisting less (even though he’s still averaging roughly 9 assists per game). Lawson is averaging 18.3 points, 8.8 assists, 1.0 steals, while shooting 51.5% from the field. Denver is 5-5 over those games, including a five-game win streak and a four-game losing streak. Pretty streaky time might I add.
When it’s all said and done, Ty Lawson deserves to be a reserve on the Western Conference team. He is putting up career numbers, what more need I say?
