Latest Denver Nuggets loss is the final straw in the Brian Shaw era
By Andrew Dill
Unbelievable. That’s all you can really say regarding the Denver Nuggets latest loss which came at the hands of the woeful Philadelphia 76ers in Philly Tuesday night. Denver continued to chuck up three ball after three ball, failing to connect. The team shot just 38.8% from the field (33-of-85) while allowing the Sixers to capitalize for 26 fast break points. Ugly basketball which resulted in a 105-98 loss.
That’s the final straw, it’s time to fire head coach Brian Shaw. The team obviously has given up on the second-year head coach, failing to show any effort whatsoever.
According to Nick Groke of The Denver Post, Shaw seems to believe his players are ‘not always giving their all.’ Well yeah, have you not watched your team play over the last couple of months? No effort, no will to win, no leadership. It is a sinking ship in the Mile High City. Judging by the players’ body language and ill-advised shots, the team is silently screaming for a head coaching change. If that makes any sense.

The Nuggets currently sit at a record of 19-30, quickly sinking any optimism from the 2012-13′ team which was led by head coach George Karl. The roster basically consists of the same core of players, yet the consistency and effort is not there at all. Denver currently occupies the 11 seed in the Western Conference, exactly where ESPN projected them to finish.
Ever since Brian Shaw took over as head coach for the Denver Nuggets, expectations have slowly declined. The team finished fourth in the Northwest Division last season with a record of 36-46. That record was without a healthy roster. This year, the team is relatively healthy yet performing worse. Shaw currently holds a record of 55-76 as head coach.
Tim Connelly has shown he is smart in the trade department, acquiring two first-round picks for center Timofey Mozgov. I personally believe firing Shaw midseason would be a bad move, but we will have to wait and find out what direction Connelly will take.
