Denver Nuggets Lose 6th Straight, Fall to Blazers 112-106
The Denver Nuggets lost their sixth consecutive game on Sunday night, as the Portland Trail Blazers defeated the Nuggets at home by a final score of 112-106.
Sunday’s game was tightly contested througout, the Blazers held only a 5 point lead at 61-56 over the Denver Nuggets at the half. Portland pulled away from the Denver Nuggets in the final period of play with the game tied at 80 points a piece at the end of the third, securing the victory and sending Denver another loss. The Denver Nuggets did narrow the gap to 91-88 with 8:52 left after a Randy Foye layup, but that was as close as the home team would get on Sunday.
C.J. McCollum led the way for Portland with 25 points and 7 assists on Sunday at Denver, while Gerald Henderson added 19 points on 6-14 shooting and 5 rebounds in 25 minutes off the bench. Al-Farouq Aminu and Allen Crabbe chipped in with 14 points a piece to help the cause. The Blazers balanced scoring effort mitigated the absence of Damian Lillard, who missed his 7th consecutive game with a foot injury.
The Denver Nuggets continue to reel following Sunday’s loss at home to Portland. Excellent play from the Trail Blazer’s guards doomed the Nuggets on Sunday, as their inability to slow down C.J. McCollum again proved their undoing. In his second game back following an ankle injury, Danilo Gallinari led all scorers on Sunday with 29 points on 8-13 shooting, while also recording 5 rebounds and 3 assists. Jameer Nelson added 17 points on 4-8 shooting.

Will Barton had his worst game in a couple of months, scoring only 5 points on 2-10 shooting in 25 minutes off the bench. Jusuf Nurkic, in his second game back from injury, scored 12 points in 4-7 shooting as a reserve.
In probably what is the biggest storyline for the Denver Nuggets in Sunday’s game, forward Kenneth Faried surprisingly suited up and started for the home team on Sunday, after he suffered a scary neck injury in Saturday’s game against Golden State. Faried was carted off the court against the Warriors on a stretcher and in a neck brace, leading many to fear that he may miss an extended period of time.
Thankfully, Denver Nuggets’ team doctors cleared Faried on Sunday, saying he suffered no neurological damage and was symptom free going into the game. Faried scored 13 points and recorded 9 rebounds against the Trail Blazers, showing that there are no lingering signs of injury.

With the Denver Nuggets shooting only 42 percent on the night, the Portland Trail Blazers’ excellent 50 percent field goal percentage gave them the victory on the road. Denver also missed 17 free throws, going 31-48 on the night. If they can shoot at a more effective clip, and make their tries at the charity stripe, they could have easily best Portland for the victory.
The Nuggets have to find a way to snap this current skid, which is their second longest losing streak of the season. Granted, the schedule over the past ten days was brutal, but Head Coach Michael Malone must find a way to tweak his lineup to get this team playing at their peak.
The Denver Nuggets showed on Saturday that they are capable of competing with the best teams in the league, but as the season progresses, it is becoming more clear that the Denver Nuggets aren’t quite ready yet, and will take time to develop. Hopefully with the imminent return of rookie point guard Emmanuel Mudiay, and the Denver Nuggets health will continue to improve, as will their fortunes on the basketball court.
