Matt Duchene Named to 2016 NHL All-Star Team
Matt Duchene earns his second-career NHL All-Star selection after being elected to the 2016 All-Star team.
The Colorado Avalanche selected Matt Duchene with the third overall pick (1st round) in the 2009 NHL Draft. The Colorado Avalanche stumbled out of the gate this season; however, over their past 10 games, they sport a 6-2-2 record, vaulting them into sixth place in the Western Conference. Matt Duchene continues to supply the Colorado Avalanche with points this season, and he shows why he is worthy of an All-Star selection.

Currently, Matt Duchene leads the Colorado Avalanche in goals with 18, five more than Nathan MacKinnon on the season. In addition to Matt Duchene’s goal scoring ability, he posted 15 assists on the season, bringing his season point total, through 40 games, to 33. Despite being active in the points department for the Colorado Avalanche, Matt Duchene leaves fans wanting more, owning a -2 plus/minus on the season. Duchene will look to improve on that mark in the second half of the 2015-2016 season.
With Matt Duchene earning a spot on the 2016 NHL All-Star team, he now has two All-Star selections under his belt. The former first round pick is showing his worth for the Colorado Avalanche; however, one could argue that Matt Duchene deserved one, maybe two more All-Star selections on his young career. This season marks the first time in Matt Duchene’s career that he is recording more goals than assists.
Matt Duchene is normally known for his assisting abilities, but no one will argue with his spike in goals on the season, as the Colorado Avalanche need his continued production to maintain a high level of play. Look for the Colorado Avalanche to ride the hot sticks of Matt Duchene and Nathan MacKinnon for a strong playoff push.

The 2016 NHL All-Star game will use the 3-on-3 divisional format instituted this season, so expect a ton of scoring on January 31st. Hopefully, Matt Duchene records a couple of points on the night and broadcast his skillset over national television.
