The Colorado Rapids are closing in on a transfer agreement with Olympiakos for Mexican international forward Alan Pulido.

Yesterday, in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft, the Colorado Rapids possessed the 2nd overall draft pick; however, while on the clock, the Colorado Rapids traded the 2nd pick to the Philadelphia Union in efforts to acquire allocation money to aid the team in signing a big-name player. The Colorado Rapids were not finished making moves in the SuperDraft.

Shortly after trading the 2nd pick in the MLS SuperDraft, the Colorado Rapids were at it again, trading the 12th and 22nd overall picks, along with the No. 2 allocation order spot, to the Chicago Fire for the 15th and 33rd overall picks and the No. 1 allocation spot. More often than not, when teams trade up to the No. 1 allocation spot, they have a player in mind that they want to sign from outside the MLS.

The Colorado Rapids seem to have their player in mind they want to sign, Olympiakos striker Alan Pulido. Alan Pulido is a member of the Mexican international team, and he would provide the Colorado Rapids with a nice upgrade at the forward position. However, at first, ESPN analyst Taylor Twellman speculated that the Colorado Rapids wanted to acquire USMNT midfielder Alejandro Bedoya, but those rumors were quashed after FC Nantes said he was not for sale.

The Colorado Rapids and Olympiakos agreed to terms on a one-year loan deal, but some obstacles remain in effort to bring the agreement to fruition. By acquiring Alan Pulido, the Colorado Rapids would not use their top allocation ranking, so it remains to be seen what the team has up its sleeve for the upcoming January transfer window.

The Colorado Rapids were one of the worst teams in the MLS last season, so they need to turn the team around in a hurry if the plan on competing in the upcoming season. Expect the Colorado Rapids to sign Alan Pulido in the upcoming days, with a possibility of adding another player via transfer to bolster their current roster.

The Colorado Rapids added two players to their team in yesterday’s MLS SuperDraft. The Colorado Rapids selected Emmanuel Appiah with the 15th overall pick out of the University of Cincinnati; moreover, with the 37th pick, the Colorado Rapids added Dennis Castillo from Virginia Commonwealth University.
