Denver Broncos: Keys to Victory Over Steelers
PEYTON MANNING MUST BE EFFECTIVE
Peyton Manning returned to action on the final Sunday of the regular season against the San Diego Chargers for the first time since the first half of the Denver Broncos’ November 15th loss to the Kansas City Chiefs at home. Though his line was not very impressive (5/9 passing for 69 yards and 0 TD’s), Manning’s return was a clear morale boost.
Last week, Head Coach Gary Kubiak announced that Peyton Manning would start for the Denver Broncos in their Divisional playoff game instead of Brock Osweiler, who started 7 games in Manning’s absence. Osweiler sprained his MCL on January 3rd, but participated in practice this week and will back up Peyton Manning on Sunday.
Peyton Manning does not have to perform spectacularly on Sunday, but just needs to play effectively. Though the venerable quarterback has shown his age this season, his postseason experience is invaluable. If Manning does not play well expect Brock Osweiler to play during some offensive possessions; but if Manning can channel some of his magic and hit his targets, the Denver Broncos have a great shot at winning this game.
