5. player. 108.
Considered to be the blue-chip prospect acquired in the Troy Tulowitzki deal, Jeff Hoffman joined Jon Gray in MLB.com’s top-10 right-handed prospects list. The Toronto Blue Jays selected Jeff Hoffman with the ninth overall pick in the 2014 MLB Amateur Draft; however, before he blew out his elbow, many teams had him atop their big boards.

Jeff Hoffman is very similar to Colorado Rockies’ top pitching prospect Jon Gray, with both possessing big arms capable of hitting the high-90s on a regular basis. In Jeff Hoffman’s first professional season, he quickly reached Double-A and demonstrated why he was such a highly-coveted prospect out of college.

Jeff Hoffman made seven starts for the Colorado Rockies’ Double-A affiliate in 2015, and he posted a 3.22 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, and a 7.2 K/9. While Hoffman’s numbers were certainly admirable, the Colorado Rockies were more impressed that he came back strong following surgery that forced him to miss the 2014 season. If Jeff Hoffman can continue his development in 2016, he could find himself on the Colorado Rockies’ roster at the tail-end of the season.

While it is unlikely the Colorado Rockies promote Hoffman in 2016, he could be a September call-up if he shows dominance in his second professional season. However, Hoffman will likely be on a strict innings/pitch count in 2016, which diminishes the chance of him seeing any time with the Colorado Rockies next season.

However, with Jon Gray and Jeff Hoffman headlining a Colorado Rockies’ rotation in the future, the Rockies look to be trending in the right direction. Do not hold your breath on seeing Hoffman in 2016, but there is a minute chance he sees a promotion to the MLB level in September. Jeff Hoffman is the real deal and will be an impact arm for the Colorado Rockies in due time.
. Starting Pitcher. Latham, New York. Jeff Hoffman
