Notable Players Not Included in List

While David Dahl and Jeff Hoffman seem like long-shots to earn a promotion to the MLB level, they possess the tools to make the jump within the next year. However, there are a couple players not included in this list that are likely to see time with the Colorado Rockies in 2016.

Cristhian Adames jumps out as a front-runner to play for the Colorado Rockies in 2016, with an improved chance to make the roster out of Spring Training. While Trevor Story presents the more flashy option for the Colorado Rockies at the shortstop position, Adames is a glove-first player that has already seen time with the Colorado Rockies in 2014 and 2015.

Although Cristhian Adames has seen time with the Colorado Rockies in two prior seasons, he still carries rookie eligibility heading into 2016. With Reyes’ situation in limbo, Adames has the chance to open the 2016 season as the Colorado Rockies’ starting shortstop, with Trevor Story providing backup later in the season. Also, there is a chance both players occupy the middle infield if the Colorado Rockies were to trade DJ LeMahieu at any point in 2016.

Another duo of long-shots for the 2016 season include Forrest Wall and Raimel Tapia. Neither of the two have played above High-A, so speculation surrounding a promotion to the MLB seems farfetched. However, crazier things have happened in the past. Both Tapia and Wall present a contact oriented approach at the dish, which bodes well for the MLB level.

Moreover, Forrest Wall plays solid defense at the keystone position, while providing a capable bat in the process. On the other hand, Raimel Tapia is an offensive-first outfield, with the ability to play decent defense. However, it is unlikely either of these two prospects sees MLB time in 2016, especially since it would expedite their club control moving forward.

The Colorado Rockies have a nice mix or bright pitching and hitting in their farm system, with Jon Gray, Jeff Hoffman, Miguel Castro, and Jairo Diaz capable of transforming the Colorado Rockies’ pitching from laughable to impressive. Also, the Colorado Rockies have hitters in the organization to fill their voids moving forward.

While the short-term future does not look so bright for the Colorado Rockies, they are moving in the right direction. Look for some younger players/prospects to make an impact on the Colorado Rockies in 2016, with Jon Gray, Trevor Story, Miguel Castro, and Jairo Diaz to likely see regular playing time in the upcoming season.
