Tim Howard: Colorado Rapids Looking to Add Keeper

Tim Howard and the Colorado Rapids look to join forces after the conclusion of the Premier League season.

Tim Howard, Everton stalwart, has his eye set on the MLS after the conclusion of this year’s Barclays Premier League season. After spending 10 seasons with Everton, Tim Howard and the Colorado Rapids hope to bring the former USMNT goalkeeper to the MLS. Reportedly, Tim Howard and the Colorado Rapids have mutual interest in acquiring him from Everton.

Tim Howard has two years remaining on his current contract with Everton (signed through 2018); thus, it is believed that the Colorado Rapids might not have to pay a transfer fee for Tim Howard’s services. Moreover, the Colorado Rapids would probably have to pay Tim Howard close to $4M a year, which would make him the highest paid goalkeeper in the MLS.

The Colorado Rapids have pursued international players for most of the January window; however, nothing has been finalized. The Colorado Rapids were in the news after trying to acquire Alan Pulido via loan, but both sides remain mum on those rumors. Now, the Colorado Rapids want to move on to Tim Howard, who provides a nice upgrade in goal for the team moving forward (if acquired).

The Colorado Rapids just recently traded Clint Irwin to Toronto FC, and they drafted a keeper in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft. However, if they sign Tim Howard, he will vault into the starting lineup immediately, with no real threat at keeper. Both Tim Howard and the Colorado Rapids show mutual interest in him making the move to the MLS; however, will it happen?

The Colorado Rapids need to transform their team to a contender, and a good start would be to add Tim Howard to the roster. If the Rapids do, indeed, manage to acquire Tim Howard in the upcoming days/weeks/months, they have a real chance at being a contender next season. Stay tuned.
