Jose Reyes Set to Leadoff in 2016

While Jose Reyes’ future with the Colorado Rockies remains cloudy, the former All-Star should find himself hitting atop when the new season begins. Although Jose Reyes will, more likely than not, be in court on opening day, the Colorado Rockies have no better option to hit in the top spot in the batting order.

With the ability to switch-hit and steal bags, Jose Reyes possesses the ability to be a solid leadoff hitter for the Colorado Rockies in 2016. Colorado Rockies GM Jeff Bridich stated that the situation surrounding Jose Reyes is a serious matter, and only MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred knows what the future holds for the Colorado Rockies’ shortstop.

Jose Reyes faces a likely suspension, but once his suspension is over, he is likely to assume the starting role at shortstop with the Colorado Rockies. Jose Reyes has hit leadoff for the majority of his career, and while his average, OBP, and stolen bases have gradually declined with age, he presents the best option for the top spot in the batting order the Colorado Rockies in 2016.

In 47 games with the Colorado Rockies last season, Jose Reyes posted pretty mediocre numbers across the board, owning .259/.291/.368 slash line, with eight steals against four caught stealing. Also, Jose Reyes presents obvious injury concerns for the Colorado Rockies, so there is no telling what to expect from the veteran heading into 2016. As of now, pencil him in as the leadoff hitter.
