Nick Hundley Rounds Out the Batting Order

Entering his age-32 season, Nick Hundley made the right decision to sign with the Colorado Rockies. Seen as a glove-first catcher, Hundley found unprecedented success as a hitter with the Colorado Rockies. Before the 2015 season, Hundley never hit above .288; however, for the most part of Hundley’s career, his batting average hovered in the .230-.240 range.

Last year, in hitter-friendly Coors Field, Nick Hundley managed to put together a career-year. He posted a .301/.339/.467 slash line across 103 games. Outside of his 2013 season with the Padres, Hundley posted career-bests in home runs (10), RBI (43), and games played (103). More likely than not, Hundley’s 2015 season with the Colorado Rockies could be an anomaly.

Fangraphs’ Streamer projects Nick Hundley to regress across the board in 2016, but not by much. While Nick Hundley received the bulk of the work behind the plate in 2015, next season, the Colorado Rockies might deploy more of a platoon at catcher, with Tom Murphy earning an increased role.

Last season, Murphy played just 11 games, but he managed to hit three home runs, with nine RBI, but he should see his workload increased next season. Entering 2016, Nick Hundley is the favorite to start behind the plate, and for now, he should round out the Colorado Rockies’ batting order. From top to bottom, the Colorado Rockies offer an impressive lineup capable of doing damage.
