The Rapids kept up their winning streak against Sporting KC on Saturday at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.

Marlon Hairston‘s 78th-minute strike lifted the Colorado Rapids to a 1-0 victory over Sporting Kansas City on Saturday night in front a home crowd of 18,461.

This was Hairston’s first goal since 2013 and his 10th appearance for the club this season.

The Rapids had defeated Sporting KC in each of their last four outings, the most recent of which was a 1-0 victory in Commerce City when Dillon Serna played the role of hero with a late goal that sealed the victory.

Saturday’s win also extends the franchise’s record to 14 consecutive games without a loss.

The Rapids now rank second in Major League Soccer’s Western Conference, with a record of 10-2-7 after 19 games.

Goalkeeper Tim Howard seems to be settling in nicely for the Rapids, playing well in his third game for Colorado.

“I feel a lot more comfortable now,” Howard said. “Another clean sheet at home, an incredible goal by Marlon. All around, we’re really happy.”

“(Howard) really solidified that back line, took the sting out of the game a couple times, made a couple of good plays and did a fantastic job today,” Rapids coach Pablo Mastroeni told reporters.

The Rapids will play host to FC Dallas next Saturday at 7pm MT.
