Gary Kubiak gets Lifetime Achievement Award from his alma mater
Denver Broncos Head Coach Gary Kubiak was selected by Texas A&M University as a 2016 Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, it was announced over the weekend.
A 1983 graduate of Texas A&M, Kubiak last season became the first former Aggie to win a Super Bowl as a head coach.
He will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 39th Annual Burgess Banquet on Friday, Nov. 18, at Kyle Field in College Station, Texas.
“You get a little nervous when you start getting lifetime achievement awards,” Kubiak said following Saturday’s practice. “Hopefully I’ve got a long way to go. They called me back a few weeks ago. That’s pretty special. Obviously that means a great deal to me. I love the school and I love what it stands for. I look forward to that. It was pretty cool.”
Before beginning his NFL playing and coaching career in 1983 with the Broncos, Kubiak earned three letters (1980-82) as a quarterback for the Aggies. As a senior, he was honored with the Aggie Heart Award, the most prestigious honor for an Aggie senior football player. Kubiak earned his degree in physical education from Texas A&M in 1983.
