Trevor Siemian

The second year quarterback has only one NFL snap, and it was a kneel down. He spent last year behind Peyton Manning and Brock Osweiler and now he is the starting quarterbacks. As the quarterback, of course he needs to have a big game to help the Broncos win.

For Siemian, the most important thing for him against the Panthers is to not turn the ball over. His teams defense has shown they can win a game, but they can’t get worn out. Turning the ball over gets the defense back on the field against an offense that will wear them out.

End in the endzone. That is the second most important thing for Siemian. He can’t leave points on the field. If they get in the redzone, they have to end in the endzone. Settling for field goals won’t win them this game. Touchdowns will.

There is a lot of work that Siemian needs to put in to become an adequate starter from what was seen in the preseason. His accuracy, mental game, eyes, ball placement and trust in his receivers was missing. Shots downfield will be needed, but he has to properly place the ball to give his receivers the best chance.

The Panthers have two rookie cornerbacks starting the game, so Emmanuel Sanders and Demaryius Thomas should be able to win one on ones quite easily. Siemian needs to see them, make sure he doesn’t stare them down, and look of the safety. There is few better tests for a young quarterback in his first start than the Carolina Panthers defense.
