Paxton Lynch becomes starter after week 10

Trevor Siemian had a poor performance in his first game. Yes, the Panthers defense is tough, but Siemian missed open receivers time and time again who were dominating against a young group of corner-backs. Instead, Siemian would hit the dump off pass, or throw a poorly placed pass and come away with an incomplete.

Not only that but Siemian threw two horrible interceptions and nearly threw three more, if not for luck. Eventually that luck will run out and Siemian’s play will regress from poor to worse. In doing so, it opens the path for Paxton Lynch to become the starter.

More from Denver Broncos

Under Siemian, the Broncos see their two losses and tie, so when Lynch comes in he leads the Broncos to an undefeated record and a playoff spot as #1 seed in the AFC. The offense, who under Siemian remained inconsistent, not only becomes consistent but feared under Lynch’s leadership.

Lynch ends the season with over 1800 yards, averaging over 300 yards per game, and 13 touchdowns averaging just over two per game. He does all this while throwing five total interceptions. Much improves from the 22 Siemian threw in the first ten games, and only 10 touchdowns to balance them out.

After week 10 is the bye week for Denver, which is the perfect time to make the switch. It will give Lynch two weeks to prepare to become the starter and get used to playing with the first unit offense. Siemian falls to the third string QB, despite leading the Broncos to a 7-2-1 record. His play just wasn’t cutting it.

When they selected Lynch in the first round, they knew they would have to play him at some point. Despite winning games, they needed to balance out their team. With the belief a switch at quarterback would make that happen, they make the switch.

In terms of bold predictions, part of this is out there, particularly the stats. However, expect Lynch to get a shot at some point this season, especially is Siemian’s play does falter. If and when that happens, it will be a true test for the rookie quarterback.
