Tight End Virgil Green

One major way to help a lackluster passing game is to get the tight end involved. Well, the Broncos have a really god tight end who is just coming into his own as a receivers. In the season opener, he had four catches on five targets for 28 yards. There were also multiple chances for the Broncos quarterback to hit Green at other times in the game.

In the Colts loss to the Detroit Lions for their season opener, the Colts allowed Lions tight end to pick up 46 yards and a touchdown. Ebron was a problem for the Colts defense he forced them to put more coverage on him. There isn’t one person on the Colts defense who can take a tight end out of the passing game.

This opens a chance for Virgil Green and the Broncos passing offense. Not only does the Colts defense not have that piece to take away tight ends, their top corners are hurt with one of them out for the game. Making the impact Green can have on the game even bigger.

If Green can be a weapon and thrive, it’d put the Colts defense on their heels. Not only do they have some dynamic receivers on the Broncos they have to try to cover, they now have to figure out a way to defense against Green. What will make it harder for the Colts defense is how hard Green is to take down after the catch. It would require at least two defenders to make a stop.

So, while he doesn’t have to have a big game on the stat sheet, Green needs to have a big game. He has to show he can be a weapon, like Ebron did for the Lions, to cause hardship for the Colts. Green having a big game this week, also would help out the Broncos offense down the road.
