Denver Broncos Secondary

Now, each member of the Broncos secondary can make this list, which is why they are just grouped together. They all need to have outstanding games to help Denver win. They don’t just need to shut down the passing game, but be willing to help against the run as well.

First off are corners Aqib Talib, Chris Harris and Bradley Roby. They will be facing their toughest match-up so far this season against the Bengals. A.J. Green is a top receiver in the NFL, Tyler Boyd is a rookie playing really well and Brandon LaFell adds a diverse threat. They have to be up to the task and take these receivers out of the game.

If they do their job, the Bengals offense will sputter due to what it will do to Andy Dalton. He relies heavily on A.J. Green, so he is the big key to take out of the game. As said earlier, Andy Dalton also gets gun-shy. All they have to do is play these receivers with tight coverage, and hope Dalton tries to force it. If he does, they need to make him pay.

It won’t be an easy task for these corners to do that, especially with Green’s huge catch radius. Green tends to come away with contested catches and seems like he does so with ease. With Aqib Talib likely the one to cover Green, and over their course of their battles it has gone back and forth.

As for the safeties, they will have the duty of covering some dangerous tight ends and running backs, while providing help to the receivers over the top. That isn’t their only duty on the game. They have to help defend the run, and be quick in doing so.

This is where T.J. Ward and Darian Stewart both truly excel at. The Broncos defensive linemen and linebackers are great at defending the run, but the support they get from the safeties is what makes the run defense excellent.

The Denver Broncos secondary just might be the most important unit for this game. They have to excel in coverage and shut down the Bengals passing game. In addition to that, they have to come up and defend the run to help the linebackers out, especially if Jeremy Hill is running the ball.
