Josiah Price, Tight End, Michigan State

Isaac Asiata, Guard, Utah

Josey Jewell, Inside Linebacker, Iowa

All three of the Broncos third round picks can come in and compete right away and all go a long way to help fill some needs on the team. Of course, these three holes can all be filled if the current Broncos players there take a step up.

First up is Josiah Price, the tight end out of Michigan State. The Broncos have s stud tight end in Virgil Green, but behind him is lacking. Jeff Heuerman had his first catch of his career in their last game, but he has battled injuries his NFL career. Price would add competition with Heuerman for the spot behind Green.

Price is a really good receiver in college, and that is what the Broncos need. However, they also want their tight ends to be capable blockers, which is where Price is lacking. His return to Michigan State for his senior year was to try and grow his blocking skills.

With their first pick of the third round, they bring in the tight end help that is currently missing. Of course with Heuerman just now seeing the field he can prove to be exactly what the Broncos need behind Virgil Green. If he manages to due that, then obviously the Broncos go elsewhere.

More from Denver Broncos

As for their second third round pick, this one from a compensatory pick awarded for Brock Osweiler, they look to their offensive line. In particular they look to improve at left guard. To say that their current left guard, Max Garcia, he been inconsistent is a massive understatement.

Of course, they also have Connor McGovner who they just draft to compete for the position. Adding another option can make them even better. Not only that, it will improve the depth on the line.

Asiata isn’t a prototype zone scheme guard. His movement isn’t the best, but he can maul in the run game. Asiata has just enough of what is needed to see success in the scheme. The big issue is he is a pure left guard. There has been next to no time for Asiata anywhere else on the line.

If Garcia can improve his play, or McGovern step up to be the answer, the the Broncos are free to go elsewhere. That works for all three of their third round picks here. They are players who can improve upon their position for the Broncos, in the Broncos current players don’t step up.

Rounding out the group is Josey Jewell to boost the Broncos inside linebacker position. Todd Davis has been inconsistent and Corey Nelson hasn’t shown the necessary growth for his time in the NFL. In the third round, finding depth on the inside can be considered a success.

All three players can improve their respective positions on the Broncos as they stand now. Of course as the season goes on these players can falter and see their stock fall. That, or the Broncos players can improve and be the answers.
