Broncos Downward Spiral

The running game for the Broncos took a bad downward spiral the last two games, especially from their starting running back C.J. Anderson. Anderson went from averaging 4.6 and 3.7 YPC to 2.6 YPC in the last two games. It hit the Broncos running game like a brick wall.

As a team, they went from having 130+ rushing yards to 52 and 89, including what the quarterbacks picked up. Against the Cincinnati Bengals, the running backs picked up 47 yards on 19 attempts for a 2.47 YPC. Then against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers it went up to a 3.2 YPC for 93 yards on 29 carries.

What teams want to average is 3.34 YPC, which gives them a first down after three runs. If you can do that, you are putting your team in third and short situations, which gives them options for the play-call. They hit a brick wall and need to breakthrough it and bounce back to their run game from the first two games.
