Broncos Options Right Tackle

Now at right tackle, there is a clear option as to what needs to be done. They just have to wait for him to get healthy. Donald Stephenson is still recovering from a calf injury, and despite Sambrailo’s draft status, Stephenson should return to starting as the right tackle.

Of course, Darrion Weems or Michael Schofield are two other options. They could switch Schofield and Sambrailo, as Sambrailo was set to be the starting right guard before injury. However, Schofield is better inside at guard than at tackle and this move could make them worse.

As for Weems, he has played well at right guard and even at tackle in the preseason. He has seen limited action so far this regular season, so the sample size is very small. It seems like the coaching staff prefers him as a guard, which makes Donald Stephenson the obvious choice.

Broncos Options Left Guard

Unlike at right guard, the Broncos have options on top of options to replace Max Garcia at left guard. They could move a few players around, insert a player there or a combination of the two. Option one would be to move Sambrailo to left guard when Stephenson comes back.

Sambrailo was practicing at guard, but right guard. Former offensive line have said that it is easier to switch from tackle to guard or guard to tackle on the same side than switching from right to left. So having Sambrailo take over left guard could take time before rewards come.

Which leads to option two. Move Sambrailo to right guard and Schofield to left guard with Stephenson returning. Schofield has experience at both guard and tackle spots, though left guard has been in practice. This would keep Sambrailo on the right side and at right guard where he started this year at.

Option three is inserting Darrion Weems. Weems could be inserted at right guard and move Schofield, or get Weems in at left guard. Weems has experience on both sides at guard and tackle, though most has been in preseason action. Not to mention that Weems overall ability still has yet to be seen, and he could end up worse than Garcia has been.
