The Colorado Rockies capped a 6-3 road trip with a sweep of the New York Mets.

Adam Ottavino struck out Tomas Nido on three pitches to close out the Rox’ New York sweep. Otto was in the closers role today as Wade Davis threw Friday and Saturday afternoon.  He responded with his first save of the 2018 season, his dominant slider on full display.

The three game set in New York was tightly contested with the Rox winning the series by a total of four runs.

First baseman Ian Desmond was the hero du jour, going 2-for-4 with two home runs.  His 8th inning blast put the Rockies ahead by the final margin of 3-2.  It was good to see Desmond with a multi-hit game.  He has struggled at the plate, notching a .188 average for the season.

Gerardo Parra went 2-for-3 with a walk, a double and an RBI.  Parra and Desmond were the only Rockies players with multi-hit performances.

Colorado committed no errors and remains third in the NL with 14 errors on the season.

After giving up three hits and two runs in the first inning, Kyle Freeland settled in. He gave the Rockies 6 one-hit innings before giving way to Brian Shaw/Jake McGee in the Mets half of the 8th.  Ottavino closed out the win after a hit and a walk in the 9th.

The Rockies (20-15) head home to open interleague play against the Angels (21-13).  Colorado will look to Jon Gray (3-4, 4.99 ERA) to build on his success in Chicago.  The Angels will start Andrew Heaney (1-1, 5.31).

DJ LeMahieu should return Thursday from the 10-day DL.  He has been doing light running/hitting while rehabilitating his injured hamstring.

The Rockies will need their bats to wake up at Coors Field, with several players looking to bring their averages up.  Notably silent from the Cather position, Chris Ianetta and Tony Wolters in particular need to find their stroke.

Let’s hope we’re seeing the Rockies settle into the team that had such high expectations coming into this season.
